1. Place the tunnel: Place the tunnel where you've seen signs of rat activity, lengthways along fences or walls, or near compost bins or areas of dense undergrowth. Ensure tunnel is completely stable.

 

2. Remove the lure cup: Locate the lure cup on the underside of the T-Rex trap. Twist it to the left to unlock and pull it out.

 

3. Fill the lure cup: Fill the lure cup with a small amount of your preferred bait. Options include peanut butter, mayonnaise, choc spread, cheese, nuts. Do not use toxins in a mechanical trap.

 

4. Replace the lure cup: Twist the bait cup to the right to lock it back in place.

 

5. Set the trap: Squeeze the back end of the trap until you hear a click. This will hold the trap jaws open.

 

6. Open the mesh on the service entrance

 

7. Position on the trap: Holding the back of the trap, slide the set trap, bait-end first, into your wooden tunnel box. Position trap at the back of the trap tunnel to prevent harm to non-target species.

 

8. Replace the mesh on the service entrance

 

9. Check Regularly: Check your traps frequently, and report catches by sending an email to predatorfree@rth.org.nz.

 

Important Notes:

• Safety: Always wear gloves when handling traps and catches to avoid transferring your scent and to protect yourself from potential diseases. Ensure you wash your hands after servicing a trap.

​

• Tunnel Box: Ensure the tunnel box is properly positioned, both ends are clear of weeds and stable.
